This play portrays the idea that freedom is something that we really don't realize how special it is. It means so much to some people, and yet people who have freedom like we think little of how rewarding it is. It is not a given but a prize. Love is one of the themes of Anne Frank. The power of love enables a person to gain hope and live on. For example, Mr. Frank blesses his daughter Anne with great love and Anne seems to rely on her dad for support. This love enabled her to hope and keep her core values and also the power to never become degrade. Good and evil are shown in this play significantly with the Nazis and the betrayer thief representing evil. However Anne writes in her diary that she believes that people are really good at heart. That is true because if it hadn't for Hitler who had brain washed the Nazis to be cold hearted and prejudice against Jews, none of this cruelty from the Nazis would ever have happened. That is why I think good dominates evil because there is good at heart but evil is just from temptations and desires. Hitler had been actually good at heart when he was young but his envying of power had created evil in his heart leading him to be one of the mass murder dictators. A book called Seesaw Girl shows how precious freedom is when the main character can't go outside because she is high ranked and outside is a foul place for a "lady" to be in. She always wants to go outside to see the lives of the citizens and the scenery of mountains and hills. The Bible also depicts a similar idea as Anne Frank. The Pharisees sort of remind me of Nazis because they are containing evil inside and there is no room for sympathy and compassion. Anne Frank says in the play that she thinks there is always some good in everyone's hearts. This idea is supported by biblical reference to Saul. Saul was a foul man like a Nazi but when God enlightened him and shed light in his heart, he became Paul. This goes to show you that there is always room for good in people's hearts and there is absolutely some good in evil people.

The Holocaust was a global era which encompassed the involvement of more than 6 million Jews and other victims. There have been some survivors to tell the tale and some who viewed these tradgic events such as the liberators who wanted to tell the tale in their words and point of views. Corageous people such as Anne Frank also inspired the people to create so many books, movies, documentaries, etc. The reason we keep retelling these stories is to understand more and discover new information. This can also be due to people wih different ideas and perspectives on the story.

The Hannakuh Celebration had been disturbed by Peter and his father argueing about the wheather the cat should be thrown away. Peter was probably enraged when his father had remarked that they were soon going to throw away the cat. Suddenly, there is a crash below suspected as a thief. Mr. Frank immediately commanded Peter to turn the lamp off. Peter tried to reach for the lamp by using the chair, but he soon looses balance. He falls down and makes a commotion that may have been heard by the thief below reveiling their secret annex. Dussel remarks by saying that they are in the greatest danger because now someone knows that they are hiding up in the secret compartment. He thinks that this person will bargain with the green police then leading to their capture

Yes Anne and Peter are almost identical to most teens today. For example they argue with their parents like on page 388 when Anne's mother argues that Anne should not talk back and be silent. Peter also argues with his family. An example is when Peter argues with his parents about throwing his cat Mouschi away because he is a burden to the party. He hates being embarassed by his parents and is very shy similar to most teenagers as well. When Peter and Anne meet at first Peter is very shy and does not greet Anne or talk to her. Peter admits that he is a loner "I'm sort of a lone wolf" pg. 377. Peter also blushes and shows is anger when his mother says that it is "okay to have a little girlfriend (pg. 383)." Teens are very shy and sensitive about girlfriend and boyfriend issues. This was one important similiarity I found in Peter.

The fear of discovery would be the hardest part of life in the Secret Annex because of the primary reason of the Secret Annex: to hide from Nazis. When the Nazis discover these people, they will be killed because the Nazis' jobs are to exterminate the Jewish population. The party of Jews in the Secret Annex were hiding because they did not want to die and other things did not matter. So simply by using logic what will be the hardest part of life? Of course the fear of being found. Once they will be found, death lies ahead. I think death is something that is most feared because you can not come back to life or at least life on Earth. Being silent and being cramped with other people can not simply compare to death because being cramped and silence are really momentary and death is permanent.

Mr. Frank breaked down and lost total control of his weaping when he saw the white gloves. I am definitely sure that they had been Anne's because on page 420/421 of the text book there is a mentioning of Anne wearing short white gloves. "She picks up a pair of short white gloves." From this clue I had inferred that these were Anne's gloves. I think the reason Mr. Frank had wept primarily was because she was his sweet daughter who had died at such a short age. It also had horrifying memories of the Nazis who had killed so much of his beloveds as well as his daughter who was so optomistic and ambitious. Well, these gloves had brought him harsh memories that had swept him completely that he cried in agony.

Theme #3

From reading this play, I think the theme is that even though the future is futile, always keep your core values and keep hoping to yourself. Mr. Frank says that there are no bolts in your mind, and Anne had hoped in God from her Judaism. This had leaded her to living out every day with hope to make her optomistic. She had something to look forward to and the thought of the invasion had been the impetus of her living the horrible life she had. There is nothing about hoping and keeping your thoughts in your mind, and this quote from her father I think had leaded to Anne living a life without great burden. I mean some people would have commited suicide or died out of extreme depression.

Prejudice

I did not know this before but when asked my dad what prejudic meant, he had said that it meant prejudging. This means that you judge something before you are aware of facts of a case. However, we do not actually use this definition when we talk about prejudice. Today, prejudice inclines to in a racial mater. We see the definition as "unreasonable attitude showing resistant racially". I have seen prejudice in my trip to Thaialnd. I was in a rural area and when I approached a store selling water, the salesman suddenly grasped me and dragged me in the store bargaining with me with wide spread eyes. He did not do this to other Thais in the store, but I think he had great expectations dragging me into the store because I was Korean. I think Korean tourists have a strong reputation of being wealthy ceratintly because this salesman was raising the price as we bargained. The effects of Prejudice are never good. This makes the other person degrading and isolated racially. For example my experience with the water salesman made me isolated and a little agravating because I was treated unfairly. I had to pay more!!

WhatI Know About the Holacaust

I know that the Holocaust is a term used to depict the genocide of millions of Jews during World War 2. This was part of a plan of immediate execution by the Nazi forces made by Adolf Hitler. However Jews were not the only ones executed. Polish, Romans, Soviet Union, and gay men were executed as well. The primary reason for this mass execution was due to the Nazis believing that the Jews were a threat to the German racial community. Germans believed they had to kill any other groups because of their racial inferiority, and thus they had an ideology that they would need to kill their alien opponent. The autobiography Anne Frank projects the hardship Anne went through as a Jew. She had to live hiding and the only thing she could do was to write in her diary. This diary is now one of the most well known books.

Plot of Lost Names

The plot of lost names starts with the exposition of course where a family is crossing the Tuman river looking for opportunity in Manchuria as the Japanese take over the providence of Korea. The main character "boy" goes through hardship at first when he doesn't have friends, and he gets in trouble with the Japanese teachers. He stands out from the others because he is the son of a noble family that supposedly is a protestant Christian family that is dangerous to the Japanese. Over the many years he realizes that there are secrets he has not been notified of such as the Soviet Union supposedly allying with the Japanese, which isn't true; it's the other way around. Also, the Korean books are stopped being published, and the Koreans have to loose their names and get a Japanese name. This is the rising action where everything builds up. What the Japanese are doing is trying to unwittingly consume the Koreans and turn them into Japanes without them realizing by taking over their culture and enforcing their's. The climax occurs when the boy finally realizes that physical torture is what the Japnese are using to hush the Koreans , but what they can't do is take their spirits, which is what we must always have. The boy doesn't cry when the japanese hits him with a bamboo stick because the boy knows too much of what the Japanese are trying to hide. For example, rubber! I think the falling action really starts when the boy learns from his mom that the US has dropped two atomic bombs in Nagasaki and Hiroshima and that the emperor realizes too that he must surrender. Finally the resoulution occurs when the emperor officially states he surrenders and when the Japanese policemen surrender as well. Korea is in joy and peace, well for now until the Korean War!!

Characterization

The author of Lost Names doesn't use much direct characterization in the novel and instead uses indirect characterization. The main character of the novel is dynamic because the character was afraid of the Japanese striking him but later on he felt calm as if the Japanese were stroking him.Examples of indirecct characterization is is when the author reveals the main character's feelings by what they say. "I can take it, I can take it I think" shows how the character is optomistic. Another example is "No please leave me alone . I can go by myself" portrays how the character is tough and independent. By looking at these examples, the character is defined as calm, tough, and confident.

Theme of Lost Names

The theme of Lost Names is how the peristence to live a better life in a horrible environment will pay off. In Lost Names, the main character's family always try to be optomistic and think that everything will be fine. The grandmother gives the main charcter white rice and pork even though they are scarce. Father is also very calm and thinking about the future. He supports the family like nothing is different. He makes skates for his children and goes on daily walks with his son, the main character. It seems like they always have hope and make the best out of what they have. They don't cry with despair that everything is lost. Even though they are in a bad situation, they are happy.

Setting of Lost Names

The setting of Lost Names is the time of the Japanese invasions on Korea. Many Koreans are moving to Manchuria across the Tuman River. The surrounding are filled with Japanese artillery lines, riflemen, and tanks. In Manchuria, the people are seperated by Japanese and Koreans, and the Koreans are forced to obey Japanese traditions and conduct. It's just awful for what you can see the Japanese people are doing by looking only at the setting. People are desperate to leave their homeland and go to a foreign region. Some new people there are laughed at because they look different and wear different things. Manchuria I would say from what I have read so far is not a good place to stay so far because of its setting whuch is a clump of people with so little kids, and they also bother the new kids.

Secrets Destroy friends

I had never known that secrets destroy friends. I remember the date clearly September 11, 2006. My friend Mark had said he had a girlfriend, and I wanted to know who she was. Mark told me who it was and told me it was a secret. I was very tempted to tell everyone in class, but I kept the secret because Mark was my precious friend. I stayed away from the people who were talking about Mark and tried to change the subject when I joined them. Another friend named Brad knew Mark had a girlfriend , but he didn't know who it was; only I knew. He used every way to find who Mark's girlfriend was. These are some of the things he did: brgaining, bothering, bullying, and copying. I was harassed in every way one could think of. I had enough of him si I relinquished the secret after two weeks. This shows a lot about my identity: I can't handle being harrassed, and If I am, I will do anything to stop it.

Taekwondo Silver Medal (Courage)

Believe it or not, I used to do Taekwondo when I was in 5th grade. My mother sent me there because I lacked confidence. At that time I was so shy to the point that I stood in the corner at school playing Tic Tac Toe by myself. The first few months of Taekwondo gave me friends and the ability to interact with other peers in other Taekwondo academys. Then, I felt I had nothing in mind but to get the medal in a competition where black belt students enter. I had friends, and so I felt I had nothing to lose. That is why I entered with confidence to win at leat silver medal. At the day of the competition, black belts were practicing their deadly trademark kicks. I was so intimidated by their passion, but I was prepared. I was full of courage, and I fought my way to the semi finals. The result of the competition was very good for me; I won the silver medal. I was so happy, and that was the part of my life when I felt courage. Nothing was going to get in my way! This experience gave me the sociality I have now, and the courage to live with confidence, which is one of the aspects of my identity that I now realized.
